LOCKDOWN: A NEW REVIVAL

Lockdown 1.0 – Zero movement
Lockdown 2.0 – Essential items only
And then came
Lockdown 3.0 with a twist – Partial opening of markets, offices, factories etc.

There are some age-old sayings. “Change is the law of Nature”. “What we sow so shall we reap”.

According to me, everything happens for a cause. The mother nature has taken a BIG “U” turn. I hear people saying these days that it’s still like a zoo but just the other way round. Now we are locked up and animals are roaming freely. This is an opportunity to undo a lot and help revive our life the way it was a few decades ago.

Here are some small things which will make a big change in your life during lockdown because this is our new common day including social distancing, work from home, study from home, going once in a week to the market, etc.

  • Meditation and Yoga – Surya Namaskar is the best way to heal your stressed mind and make it active. You can do it along with your children. 10-15mins of meditation daily will give you a lot of peace and a freshness to your mind.
  • Gardening – It’s the best way to get healthy and safe food. Some of you may have small house or would not be having nay garden. No problem. Use pots. tomatoes, brinjal, bitter gourd, green and red chillies, mint, coriander, curry leaves, bottle guard, lady finger. All these plants do need land to grow. Doing this will not only make you busy but is also a great workout method. The SMILE on your face when the first bud comes out is the best. It also keeps your mind away from negative thoughts. Even if you get one green chilli out of 4-5 plants which were able to grow, you will still feel at the “Top of the World”. Because it’s your hard work. It won’t give you any monetary benefits but the happiness you feel is unmeasurable.
  • Walk or Jumping – Some people may be living on 2nd floor or 5th floor or 10th floor and can’t go down or in the garden for their workout. You can walk in your house itself. Go on your terrace. Walk in your bedroom for one hour. Doesn’t make a difference where you are staying. You just need to start and it will start happening. Solutions come by themselves. If you still can’t get yourself to walk, do standing jumps. Even better workout.
  • Dancing – We all love to dance. It doesn’t have to be a meaningful dance or matching steps as in the song. Just dance your heart out. I am sure it will make you happy and you will enjoy it even more if you do it with your family. No one is there to judge you on your dancing skills. Become a kid yourself and just dance.
  • Exercise using portable equipment or readily available home furniture – If you get your hands on some portable home exercise equipment’s it will be great but even if you can’t it is ok. Your home furniture can become your equipment’s. Hindustan Times gives workouts daily for all your body parts. You can find a lot of them from trusted websites or take the help of your Gym Trainer. And don’t forget to involve your family in it. Always do stretching after your workouts.
  • Help your wife at home – Give the “Manager of the House” some “ME” time. She never gets a Sunday. In fact, Sunday is busier than any other week day and from last 40days every day has been a Sunday for her. Special demands every day, children at home all the time, no maids to help them out and to top it all we are also not helping her. Come on get out of your bed or your favourite chair and cook meals with her, do cleaning with her, help her take care of the kids, water the plants, iron the clothes, wash utensils with her. There are so many things that can be done. All these things will make you active and you will not even realize that you have done some workout in the day.
  • Involve kids – Make children do small things like put up the clothes for drying, make them clean their wardrobes and their rooms once a week, make them do dusting of the house, lay the table during meals, clean the table after meals. These things will make them stay from TV and phones and they will also become active.

It is not just the time of survival; it could be revival too.
